Dark Chocolate Candy Cane Cookies (with a Gluten-free option)

      Dark Chocolate Candy Cane Cookies (with a gluten-free option too)


      • 1 1/2 cup flour
      • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
      • 1 tsp baking powder
      • 1/2 tsp salt
      • 1 cup butter (2 sticks) softened
      • 1 1/2 cup sugar
      • 1 tsp peppermint extract
      • 1 tsp vanilla extract
      • 2 eggs
      • 1 package dark chocolate chips
      • 1/2 cup crushed candy cane, plus additional as needed for sprinkling on top

      Preheat oven to 375


      • Mix flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt together and set aside
      • Beat butter with sugar at medium speed until creamy
      • Add Peppermint & Vanilla extracts, and eggs one at a time, mixing until well blended
      • Gradually add flour mixture while slowly mixing
      • Stir in chocolate chips & crushed candy cane
      • Drop into round balls on cookie sheets and sprinkle additional crushed candy cane on top to taste
      • Bake for 12 minutes or until done

      For the Gluten Free version, the recipe is the same with the following exceptions:

      • Use just slightly less than 1 1/2 cups of your preferred gluten free flour mix
      • Add 1 1/2 tsp xanatham gum to the dry flour mix
