8 Things You Need to Give Up to Be Happy

Laure Redmond, self-esteem coach and author of Feel Good Naked, joined us to share a better way to get happy:

      1. Complaining -- Give up your constant need to complain about the many situations and events that make you unhappy, sad and depressed. No situation can make you sad or miserable unless you allow it to. It's not the situation that triggers those feelings in you, but how you choose to look at it.

      2. Other People's Expectations -- Live your life according to what makes you happy, not what makes your parents, friends, teachers, government or media happy. Listen to your inner voice and you will know your true calling. You have one life - this one right now - own it and don't let other people's opinions distract you from your path

      3. Labels and Limiting Beliefs -- Stop labeling what you don't understand as being weird or different. Instead, open your mind little by little; minds only work when open. The highest form of ignorance is when you reject something that you don't know anything about.

      4. Blame -- Don't blame others for what you have or don't have, feel or don't feel. Stop giving your power away and start taking responsibility for your own life.

      5. Critical, Defeating Self-Talk -- Don't believe everything your mind is telling you - especially if it's negative and self-defeating. You are better than that.

      6. Resistance to Change -- Change is good and will help you move from point A to point B. Change will help you make personal improvements in your life.

      7. Excuses -- Send them packing and tell them you no longer need them. A lot of times we limit ourselves because of the many excuses we use. Instead of improving ourselves and our lives, we get stuck lying to ourselves, using all kinds of excuses - excuses that 99.9% of the time are not even real.

      8. Attachment -- Attachment comes from a place of fear, which is the opposite of love. When you direct your life from a place of love instead of fear you make space for a peaceful, tolerant, kind, and serene mindset. A happy state beyond words.
