We want to let you know that AM Northwest has lost a member of its family. Bryon Garvin, a creative services photographer, lost his battle with cancer early yesterday morning.
Bryon came to Portland and KATU 18 years ago as a news photographer. He got to explore the northwest, working on outdoor and environmental reports. In 2007 he joined the creative services team, shooting commercials, news promos and segments for our show.
He was awarded multiple emmy awards throughout his career, two for his work on AM Northwest.
Bryon was a brilliant photographer whose love of music gave him the ability to create a lyrical, visual style that could not be matched. He was an example of excellence for everyone who worked with him.
Bryon was diagnosed with cancer a short year ago. He fought the disease with every fiber of his being, never once talking about giving up. Last December with renewed energy, Bryon returned to work, shooting promos, commercials , even producing KATU's annual Go Green special.
But in May, the cancer grew too powerful and claimed our friend far too soon.
To his wife Tiffany, his children Tage and Rula and the many of friends and family who were lucky enough to have known him, our thoughts are with you...and this is what we know...that cancer may have taken his body from us, but it can never take away his spirit. Bryon was...invincible.
