Certified Public Accountant Troy Reichlein visited the studio today to tell us the benefits of planning your taxes now.
August isn't the month most people want to start thinking about taxes, but it's actually a good time to start thinking about them along with the deductions you'll have for 2012. Filing early can not only get you your refund sooner, but even if you owe it can potentially save you some headaches come tax time.
Filing early can also help protect you from fraud. Crooks file early in the season, and the sooner you file the better chance you have that someone won't be able to file a return using your social security number. Also once you file, the IRS has your social security number on record for the year, so if someone tries to file a return later using your information, they won't be able to.
