5-year-old playing with lighter starts Gresham apt. fire

GRESHAM, Ore. - A five-year-old boy playing with a lighter started a fire in an apartment Wednesday that displaced two families, according to a Gresham official.

The fire was reported in the 19500 block of Northeast Halsey at about 4:45 p.m.

It was upgraded to a second alarm just after 5 p.m.

Firefighters brought the fire under control about an hour later.

The Red Cross is helping the families displaced by the fire with food, clothing, housing and other needs.

There were no injuries.
