Amy Sim

Bachelor of Fine Arts Apparel Design

Current student

Amy Sim began sewing on her mother's Singer Featherweight sewing machine at the age of nine. Throughout junior high and high school, Amy developed her skills and created the majority of her wardrobe. She headed to Oregon State University to major in Apparel Design, where a college professor suggested that a more "practical" degree would be Home Economics Education. Amy listened to that advice and changed her major. For many years, Amy's passion for fashion design was put on the back burner as she raised two sons and became a certified instructor and owner of a Jazzercise franchise. When her sons were in college, Amy made the bold decision to return to school and pursue her dream degree in Apparel Design. Her expertise shows in the beautiful workmanship of the garments she creates. Amy is inspired by the classic fashion icons Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, and Jacqueline Kennedy, and aspires to design special pieces with clean lines, supreme quality and exquisite details. Amy resides in Portland with her husband Tim, her "biggest fan." Sons, Brennan, 24, is in the MBA program at The University of South Alabama, and Garrett, 21, is a senior at The University of Oregon where he plays basketball for the Ducks.
