Cyclist hit by car in Milwaukie identified, upgraded to serious condition

MILWAUKIE, Ore. - Police have identified a bicyclist who is in serious condition at a hospital after a crash on Highway 224 in Milwaukie Thursday night.

Police say the cyclist, 32-year-old Sorin Nita, tried to cross the highway at Southeast Oak Street while he had a red light. The driver of an oncoming car on the highway did not see him and the impact sent the cyclist into the windshield and over the top of the car.

Police said Nita is homeless. He has been upgraded to serious but stable condition at OHSU.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.
