Driver assaults witness after highway crash, police say

OREGON CITY, Ore. - Police arrested an Oregon City man who they said assaulted a crash witness Wenesday morning.

Police said Kelly Lewallen was driving a Jeep Liberty at a high speed when it hit a truck from behind on Highway 213. The crashed forced the truck off the road and both vehicles had major damage.

A man who saw the crash stopped and got out of his car to talk to both drivers. The witness, whose name has not been released, was telling Lewallen when he saw when Lewallen attacked him, according to police. They separated when firefighters arrived at the crash scene.

Neither man was taken to the hospital. Police said the witness had minor injuries on his face and hands.

State police arrested Lewallen and took him to the Clackamas County Jail. He faces one count of assault (4th degree). Additional charges are pending, police said.

The truck driver, Angel Aranda, was taken to a hospital with a minor injury.
