Driver falls asleep at the wheel, crashes into motorcyclist, police say
CLACKAMAS, Ore. - Police cited a West Linn man accused of falling asleep at the wheel and crashing into a motorcyclist on Interstate 205 early Wednesday morning.
Christopher Pearson, 49, was driving northbound on I-205 near Clackamas at around 5:15 a.m. when he dozed off and his Jeep drifted into a guardrail, according to police. The collision woke him up, and he lost control of the Jeep as it veered into the center lane and hit a motorcycle driven by 63-year-old Bruce Becker.
Medics took Becker to a hospital with serious injuries.
Pearson was not hurt in the crash. Police cited him for careless driving.
Oregon State Police remind drivers to find a safe place to pull over and take a break if you feel yourself getting tired while driving.
