High wind + tree + gravity = bad news for cars in Fairview

FAIRVIEW, Ore. - The wind whipped through the Columbia River Gorge Friday and into the Portland area causing damage, including a tree that fell on two cars in Fairview.

One casualty was a Mercedes parked on the street - parts of the tree buried themselves into the car and branches stuck out of its skylight.

"You see other pictures of trees going over on cars, but being there is totally different - and witness it," said Larry Hunter, who lives nearby.

The tree came down just after 8 a.m. Friday.

Another car was also damaged by the same tree.

No one was hurt in the incident.

In Vancouver on Thursday a carport at an apartment complex collapsed and flattened it like a pancake, taking out at least one car. Cleanup crews worked to clean up the mess.
