Home seller catches man inspecting pill supply, not the pipes
BEAVERTON, Ore. - A woman selling her home caught a sewer inspector on camera going through her medicine instead of inspecting her home's pipes.
Jan Smith is selling her house and was told she had to leave for the sewer inspection. She did, but she checked her security camera while she was gone to see if the inspection was over.
The camera feed was available on her smartphone. And on it she saw the sewer inspector, Gary Hill of Gary Hill Sewer Inspections, digging through the Tupperware box of medications in her kitchen cabinet. He did it twice while the real estate representative was out of the room.
Smith hit "record" on her phone just in time to get video of the inspector going through the medications.
"I was freaking out. I didn't know what to do. I was shaking," Smith said. "It's just a very weird feeling. I was kind of in shock. I didn't know what to do."
She drove home and asked Hill why he pawed through her medicines.
"He was just like, 'What, no I didn't. What are you talking about?'" Smith said.
She told him she had video proof. She said he admitted doing it.
Smith set up the camera because she felt uncomfortable about having strangers like potential buyers, real estate agents and inspectors in her house while selling it.
Hill was hired by the person buying the house.
Hill told a KATU News reporter by phone he would not comment for this story.
The real estate agency that provided the list of sewer inspector names for the buyer to choose from said it immediately cut off all business with Hill as soon as it heard about this Friday.
Smith said some still images show the inspector with his hand in or near his pocket, but she said she has no evidence that he actually took pills out of the bottles.
She had police "trespass" him, meaning if he comes back to her house, he could be arrested.
