Malibu Raceway won't be shutting down after all, just moving
BEAVERTON, Ore. - Malibu Raceway, a long-time icon in Beaverton that was slated to be shut down after losing its lease, is getting a second chance.
The track has been in business for over 30 years on Southwest Cascade Avenue and was slated to close April 30. Earlier this month, the property's owner gave the business 30 days to move out so a national car chain, CarMax, could move in instead.
It looked like the track was going to be gone forever, but now there is news that Malibu will instead open at a new location. They plan to announce where they will be moving to at a news conference Monday morning.
Owner Kevin O'Connell told KATU he is relieved that he won't have to shut down after years of operation along Highway 217. Malibu Raceway first opened in 1979.
