Man accused of kidnapping, raping woman in Vancouver motel
VANCOUVER, Wash. - A man was arrested after police said he tried to strangle his girlfriend and then raped her after an argument over her children.
Greycloud Lawler, 34, was taken to jail and is being held on $150,000 bail. The 28-year-old victim said she was attacked by Lawler after she wouldn't let him see her children, according to a probable cause statement.
Clark County sheriff's deputies said the victim told them that Lawler tried to choke her seven times during the night of Feb. 14/15 in a room at the Value Motel at 708 N.E. 78th Street. During one of those times, she passed out.
"When she woke up Greycloud kept her in the room against her will and told her if she screamed he would kill her," the probable cause statement said.
Then in the morning he ripped her clothes off and raped her, according to the court document. She fought back, scratching at his face. The victim told a deputy that Lawler slept against the room's door with a large hunting knife to keep her from escaping.
Police described Lawler as a "transient."
According to police, the victim had bruises on her right arm, cuts on her lips and a large scratch across her forehead. Police said they found Lawler with a large hunting knife and scratches on his face.
Lawler faces rape, assault and kidnapping charges. He made his first court appearance Tuesday. He's next appearance is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 21.
