Pipe bomb found in Washington County field

PORTLAND, Ore. The Washington County Sheriff's office says bomb experts safely detonated a pipe bomb found in a field in a rural part of the county Saturday.

Deputies called to Southwest Clark Hill Road and Southwest Long Road Saturday afternoon were told by a 56-year-old man that he had found a bomb in the field.

The Portland Bomb Squad was called. Bomb experts moved the device to a safer location and detonated it. The device was confirmed a bomb, but experts weren't able to determine how much explosive compound it contained.

The sheriff's office said Saturday night it does not know who left the bomb in the field.
