Police search for man who tried to steal ATM

PORTLAND, Ore. - Police are looking for a man who they said tried to steal an ATM from a credit union in Northwest Portland early Sunday morning.

It happened at the Selco Community Credit Union at 2465 Northwest Thurman Street. Police said he caused a lot of damage, but got away with nothing.

A witness said he heard a loud bang and then came outside to see the suspect speeding away in a truck. Police found the truck abandoned a few blocks away.

Police are looking for a white or Hispanic man who was wearing all dark clothing.

It's unclear if the attempted theft is connected to a similar crime that happened last week on Southeast Belmont Street.
