Kris Figard, 17, is from Aloha and is completing his Eagle Scout project by putting together 50 care packages to send to members of the U.S. military overseas.

The packages include candy, playing cards and toiletries. He’s also sending along more than 200 letters from local elementary and middle school students.

“It’s always good to remember the men and women who serve – basically to show them that support that we know that they’re out there for us,” he said during his appearance on KATU News on Wednesday.

So far he’s raised $825, which goes to paying for the packages and shipping them to the Middle East.

He’s been in the Boy Scouts for about seven years and plans to join the military someday.
