Kids Doing Good Stuff: TLC-TNT Mentors
PORTLAND, Ore. —
A group of local teens are part of TLC-TNT.
It stands for Tender Loving Care – Think ‘N Try.
Founded in 1986 to alleviate gang activity in North Portland, the program provides a peer mentoring environment.
Ninety-two percent of the kids who are involved stay in school, graduate and go on to college.
The program has been going for 30 years.
“We just go all around North Portland. We go to different schools and we just basically recruit younger kids K-8 or high schoolers, and we’re involved with them throughout the whole summer,” said mentor Deondre Jones.
