Kids Doing Good Stuff: Lauren Woodhouse is helping girls on world stage get an education
PORTLAND, Ore. —
Lauren Woodhouse, a junior at Cleveland High School, was recently chosen out of hundreds of applicants to be a teen adviser to the United Nations Foundation’s “Girl Up” campaign.
The goal of the campaign is to help girls around the world, who live in vulnerable settings, get an education.
“We’re hoping to help girls who have a difficult time getting to school or getting their education,” she said Wednesday during an interview at the KATU studios. “We actually have a school cycle program that we just launched, and it buys young girls bicycles, because often times it’s a long way to school. So that can deter them from getting there.”
The campaign has programs in many countries, including Malawi, Uganda and India, she said.
