A man died Tuesday night after it was reported that there was a fight.

Police were called just after 8:30 p.m. to the 4400 block of Southeast 99th Avenue.

They arrived to find a man who police said appeared to be in his 20s to 40s suffering from traumatic injuries. Medics determined the man was dead. Police have not determined who he is.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene. Investigators focused on an apartment building and took photographs of the scene.

Police haven't said anything about a possible suspect, and they haven't arrested anyone.

"Anytime that you have somebody on the run who may be involved in a homicide there is some inherent danger there, but as we see with a lot of cases, there is something personal about these kinds of incidents," said Portland police spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson.

But police do believe the victim and the suspect knew each other, because there was a fight between the two.

A neighbor told KATU that police have come to the apartment before.

Southeast 99th Avenue was closed between Holgate Boulevard and Cora Street.
