14-year-old struck, injured by driver near Vancouver school
VANCOUVER, Wash. – A 14-year-old was hit and injured by a driver Monday morning while walking to Alki Middle School in Vancouver, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said.
The crash happened just after 8:30 a.m. on 139th Street near NW 21st Avenue.
According to deputies, 14-year-old Gabriel Carpenter was in a marked crosswalk near Alki Middle and Chinook Elementary Schools when he was struck by a driver in a Nissan Frontier.
The driver was going the speed limit for the school zone, however he told deputies that the sun was in his eyes. The driver was not cited for the crash.
The teenager suffered some lower back and arm injuries; family members say he is recovering at home.
