Blessing of the Animals at The Grotto: 'Pets of all faiths are welcome'
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Grotto was filled with pets on Sunday for A Blessing of the Animals.
Dogs, cats, birds, and even hedgehogs attended the ceremony, where a priest blesses pets at the Catholic shrine and garden.
“People and pets of all faiths are welcome,” organizers posted online.
The blessing celebrates the companionship of our pets. One cat owner we spoke with said she thinks the blessing will help her cat live a long and healthy life.
These events are typically celebrated on a Sunday near the feast for St. Francis of Assisi, who is associated with animals.
