Boy struck by driver while walking to school in Battle Ground, driver flees scene
BATTLE GROUND, Wash. —
Battle Ground police say a 14-year-old boy was struck by a driver while walking to school Thursday morning, and the driver fled the scene.
The boy said he missed the school bus, so he began walking to school along Eaton Avenue on the north side of the road going the same direction as traffic.
Around 7:15 a.m., he was struck from behind by driver, and thrown into the air, landing in tall grass. The crash occurred in the 2100 block of Eaton Avenue.
The boy managed to get help from a passing motorist at SE Commerce Avenue and 13th Street, and was hospitalized with a broken ankle and dislocated elbow.
Police say the driver was in a dark-colored SUV, which likely has damage to the front, passenger side fender and passenger mirror. Call police if you have any information.
