Group of Portland students get stranded in Clatskanie as bus driver forgets pick-up
PORTLAND, Ore. —
A group of Jefferson High School students from Portland was stranded late into the night last week when their contracted schools bus driver forgot to pick them up.
Dave Northfield with Portland Public Schools confirmed 22 students from the school's dance team and two adult supervisors were stranded for hours. The bus was supposed to bring the group back to Jefferson High around 10 p.m. Friday.
The bus driver who was supposed to pick them up worked with First Student and was placed on leave pending discipline.
A dispatcher who was supposed to send out the driver is also possibly facing disciplinary action.
A spokesman for First Student told KATU he doesn't know exactly how this happened. He said the incident was unacceptable and apologized. The company has also offered gift cards to parents who had to make the 120-mile round trip drive to Clatskanie and back.
