California woman killed in crash on Highway 97
DESCHUTES COUNTY, Ore. —
Oregon State Police responded to a crash on Highway 97 near milepost 158 southbound around 3:30 PM Friday.
Police say 58-year-old Pamela Vanworth of Klamath Falls was speeding southbound on the highway in a 2004 Scion XB and passing numerous other cars.
Police say she lost control of her car and drove into the northbound lane, crashing into a Ford F350. The Ford was an Oregon Department of Transportation incident response truck driven by 36-year-old John Benson of Redmond.
The passenger in Vanworth's Scion, 45-year-old Lisa Ann Garcia-Ramirez of Bakersfield, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Benson and Vanworth were taken to St. Charles Hospital in Bend.
Police say Benson was released with minor injuries, and Vanworth remains in the ICU.
