GOVT CAMP, Ore. – A 9-year-old died and two other people were critically injured Sunday afternoon in a crash on a snow-covered portion of Highway 26.

According to state troopers, Kenneth Schmidt, 53, of Crooked River Ranch, was driving a Ford Excursion west on the highway with his family when he lost control and crossed into the eastbound lanes about 10 miles southeast of Government Camp.

Schmidt crashed into a Subaru Outback driven by 48-year-old Debra Hahn of Redmond.

A 9-year-old riding in the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hahn and her passenger, 68-year-old Linda Todd, were both critically injured in the crash. No word on their current conditions.

The highway was closed for several hours while Oregon State Police investigated the crash scene.

Anyone with helpful information on the crash should call OSP at (971) 271-3872.
