Coast Guard rescues 2 women stranded on rocks north of Cannon Beach
CANNON BEACH, Ore. —
A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued two women stranded on a rock Thursday and flew them to safety.
The Coast Guard said Seaside police called about 10 minutes before 6 p.m. and said the women called for help using a cellphone.
The rising tide at Hug Point State Recreation Site north of Cannon Beach had surrounded the rock, trapping the women.
The Coast Guard dispatched a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter to the scene, arriving at about 6:30 p.m. The crew sent a rescue swimmer down to help the women, who were then flown to medics on the shore at Silver Point Lookout.
