Construction underway to give Vancouver's waterfront a new look
VANCOUVER, Wash. – Construction is underway along the Vancouver waterfront as part of a big neighborhood makeover.
The 22-block waterfront development, located just west of Interstate 5, has been in the works for more than a decade.
The new project will include a park, restaurants, a brewery, a boutique hotel, apartments and a new pier, named the Grant Street Pier. The pier will be a 90 foot walkway suspended by cables.
Developers say they're excited to give people in Vancouver access to the river, and a unique space that Portland doesn't necessarily have.
“It's not that people in clark county don't want to have urban living, they do, it just hasn't been possible because of the paper plant and the stink and all that and it's been covering up the fact that they've got the greatest downtown,” said Barry Cain, the president of Gramor Development.
Currently there are four buildings under construction, and residents can expect to see at least one more crane up by next month.
Cain said the first buildings will open next spring.
