Crews reach lost hiker at Angel's Rest in the Gorge
COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE, Ore. - Search and rescue crews with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office have reached a hiker who was lost near Angel's Rest.
According to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, Kaine Simon, 25, and his dog are OK but thirsty.
Simon was able to reach a 911 dispatcher with his cellphone around 2 p.m., deputies said. He told the dispatcher he parked his car in the Angel's Rest overflow lot but went up a small, unmarked trail, instead of the main trail.
He told the 911 dispatcher that his dog was with him and that he was in some kind of ravine. The sheriff's office located the area Simon was in by using his cellphone's GPS. Deputies said he was far away from established trails.
They said he told them that he's out of water and food and wasn't carrying emergency supplies.
Search teams are walking Simon out and should be back at the trailhead at about 8:30 p.m.
Simon is from Milwaukie.
