Death investigation underway after body found near railroad tracks in Fairview

Authorities from multiple law enforcement agencies investigate what they call a suspicious death after a man's body was found near train tracks off Northeast 223rd Ave. in Fairview.

Authorities are investigating what they call a suspicious death in Fairview.

A man's body was found near train tracks off Northeast 223rd Avenue near Northeast Townsend Way at just before 11 a.m. on Thursday.

Harry Smith, Fairview's interim police chief, said a railroad employee and others in the area saw the body and called 911. He said investigators found evidence of "homicidal violence" but would not explain how the man died or reveal the man's identity.

Northeast 223rd Avenue was shut down for about five hours.

Smith said there's no danger to the public and that an active investigation is underway involving officers from multiple law enforcement agencies including the Fairview Police Department, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, the Gresham Police Department and Oregon State Police.
