Man found dead in Vancouver neighborhood, neighbors report hearing gunshots
VANCOUVER, Wash. —
Vancouver police are investigating a death in Vancouver after responding to reports of shots fired around 4 a.m. Saturday.
Officers found a man dead at the corner of NE 28th Street and NE 126th Avenue.
"Gunshots, five or six gunshots," said Austin Caylor, who lives across the street. "It didn't sound like it was that far away so I called police. I couldn't really see anything out of my window."
Police say they do not have any suspect information to share at this time, but detectives do not believe there is a threat to the general public.
The victim has not been identified.
Detectives with the Vancouver Police Major Crime Unit are investigating. Police did not clear the scene till late Saturday morning.
"The neighborhood is fine, it's growing, and that comes with stuff, but it's not really an issue. Things happen, they have to happen somewhere," Caylor said.
Several neighbors say they woke up to the gunshots, but were not immediately aware of what happened. Many of them did not find out what happened till later in the morning.
A few blocks from the crime scene, neighbors reported seeing police searching the area.
"I saw a couple [police officers] drive by, cars slowly looking around," said Scott Palmer, who lives two blocks from where the man was found dead.
Palmer says he and his wife woke up at 4:45 a.m. to find police officers searching their yard.
