A drunk driver led deputies on a car chase down Highway 26 early Wednesday morning, according to a sheriff's office report.

The pursuit started in the Cornelius area overnight. Deputies followed the car down Highway 26 to the Sylvan area just after 1 a.m.

Deputies arrested 45-year-old Leroy Foos after deploying spike strips and using a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle. The report said deputies then found evidence of alleged burglaries inside Foos' Toyota Corolla.

Law enforcement closed down the right-hand eastbound lane for about two hours to conduct an investigation.

Foos faces charges including DUII, attempt to elude and reckless driving.
