Deputies ID skydiver who died after parachute malfunctioned in S. Oregon
WHITE CITY, Ore. – The Jackson County Sheriff's Office identified the sky diver that died in a parachuting accident in White City on Sunday afternoon.
Deputies received calls just after noon about someone crash landing on a property in the 16800-block of Antioch Road.
The sheriff’s office identified the man as Jackson Kern, 74, of Central Point. He was pronounced dead at the scene by responding firefighters.
The pilot that took Kern up said he and other skydivers jumped out of the plane at 12,000 feet.
Initial investigations show that Kern was able to get his chute open, however a malfunctioning toggle prevented him from slowing and controlling his descent.
Those who knew Kern say he was an experienced jumper, the sheriff’s office said.
