Driver of pickup that crashed into house faces DUII charge
CULVER, Ore. (AP) Authorities say the driver whose pickup truck slammed into a Culver home and trapped a sleeping resident has been arrested on several charges.
Jefferson County Sheriff Jim Adkins says the resident 46-year-old Charles John Wilda Jr. is hospitalized in critical condition following the crash early Saturday morning in the central Oregon community.
Adkins tells KTVZ that 45-year-old Steven Dwayne Roe was arrested on charges of DUII, second-degree assault, reckless driving and second-degree criminal mischief.
He says that Roe apparently passed out, ran a stop sign, hit the house and the truck pinned the sleeping man beneath the front end.
But Adkins says the crash left the home so unstable, that it took fire crews using airbags to shore it up about two hours to extricate Wilda.
He says the driver had minor injuries.
