Driver who eluded police jailed after crash kills 72-year-old man
MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, Wash. -- A high-speed police chase ended Friday night in a violent crash that sent two people to the hospital and killed a 72-year-old man.
Police arrested the woman who sped away from police after she was released from Swedish Edmonds Hospital Saturday.
She is being booked for investigation of vehicular homicide in the Snohomish County Jail.
The brief chase began at about 8:15 p.m. when a Lynnwood police officer on patrol spotted a man believed to have active felony warrant in the passenger seat of a white van near 200th St. S.W. and Highway 99 in Lynnwood, according to Lynnwood police.
The officer tried to stop the van, but the female driver sped off. The officer followed, and the two-mile chase ended when the van crashed into another van at a high-rate of speed near 44th Avenue West and 212th Street Southwest in Mountlake Terrace, according to police.
A 72-year-old man driving the other van was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. He later died.
The 55-year-old Snohomish County man who was a passenger in van being pursued by police suffered serious injuries and was also taken to Harborview.
Police later learned that the man had a felony warrant out for his arrest and the woman had two misdemeanor warrants.
