Firefighters rescue man from 'complicated' crash on I-5

PORTLAND, Ore. - Firefighters rescued a man trapped in his wrecked pickup truck on Interstate 5 Monday night.

The crash happened at about 9:15 on I-5 south near Taylor's Ferry Road, Rich Chatman of the Portland Fire Bureau said. The driver, in his mid-50s, crashed his pickup into a large highway sign.

It took firefighters about an hour and a half to get the man out of his twisted vehicle. Chatman described the rescue as "complicated." Firefighters had to use several cutting and spreading tools to get the man out of the truck.

The man was taken to OHSU with serious injuries.

Police are investigating the crash.
