Former West Albany HS teacher sentenced in sex abuse case

ALBANY, Ore. (AP) — A former western Oregon teacher has been sentenced to 100 days in jail in a sex abuse case involving two girls at West Albany High School.

James Walter Myrick, 28, was also sentenced to three years of probation, The Albany Democrat-Herald reported on Saturday.

Myrick was arrested in July following a six-month investigation. Police said he used his position as a teacher in an attempt to coerce a 17-year-old girl to have sexual contact with him.

Myrick pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree sexual abuse, third-degree attempted sexual abuse, and two counts of first-degree official misconduct.
