BATTLE GROUND, Ore. -- A GoFundMe account has been set up to benefit the family of a 3-year-old boy who was allegedly killed by his mother's boyfriend Monday night.

Police say a boy called police around 8 p.m., telling them a man was beating his 3-year-old brother, Jose "Pepe" Castillo-Cisneros. Dispatchers heard screaming in the background and immediately sent out two officers.

When the officers arrived to the home on SW 6th Street, no one was answering so they smashed the door down to get inside.

There, they found Pepe lying on the floor with severe head injuries, including a cut that was consistent with a knife wound. He was hospitalized in critical condition and later pronounced dead.

Pepe's mom's boyfriend, 39-year-old Ricardo Gutierrez, had blood on his clothes and injuries on his hands when he was taken into custody. He's now facing murder charges. Gutierrez told police he "didn't remember assaulting the boy."

The boy's mother told police that she saw Gutierrez throw the child against their bedroom wall before he started to choke the boy. Investigators said they found a hole in the drywall about the size of a child's head.

The mother broke her arm trying keep Gutierrez off of her child, police said.

According to the GoFundMe page set up by Pepe's aunt, the boy had autism.

"He was doing so well, he was learning how to talk and this was his second week at his special school. [Monday] was the first day he didn't cry when the bus picked him up and he got home very happy after school," Brenda Cisneros Al Faraj wrote.
