Group of 9 drivers in 'souped-up' cars cited for careless driving
COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) Oregon State Police say troopers cited nine drivers traveling together on Highway 42 toward the coast after other motorists complained that they were driving carelessly.
According to a police statement, the motorists said that the drivers in "souped-up" vehicles were making unsafe passes, racing, and running cars off the road while trying to keep up with one another.
Troopers intercepted the vehicles traveling west from Winston before noon Saturday and conducted a nine-vehicle traffic stop near the junction of highways 42 and 101, south of Coos Bay.
Police say the drivers were men between the ages of 18 and 23 who told officers they were traveling together for an annual camping trip at the beach.
Each driver was cited for careless driving.
