VANCOUVER, Wash. - Just over 120 students were out sick at Walnut Grove Elementary School in Vancouver Public Schools Friday, prompting the district to contact the county health department, according to the district.
According to a letter from the Clark County Health Department sent home with students Friday, it is investigating reports of vomiting and diarrhea but right now it has not determined the cause of the illnesses.
District spokesperson Pat Mattison said there were about 123 students absent Friday, which was up from 59 students absent Thursday. Since more than 10 percent of the students were absent, the district contacted the health department.
Mattison said specialized cleaning crews will be cleaning the school Friday night.
Also, Friday night's school carnival was canceled.
