'I just came outside and he was just sitting there laid out'

GRESHAM, Ore. - A man was shot and killed outside a Gresham apartment complex and police are now looking for the suspect.

The shooting happened just before 7 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the Rockwood Station Apartments at 19100 E. Burnside Street.

Gresham police said the victim was 21-year-old Andreas Prince Jones of Portland.

A witness told KATU he saw the shooter walk up, fire shots at the victim and then run off. Paramedics were not able to save Jones. He died at the scene.

"I just came outside and he was just sitting there laid out," a neighbor, who identified himself as Tyrone, said. "I don't know. I was just talking to him not even like five minutes before it happened."

The suspect is described as a black man in his early 20s who is about six feet tall. He weighs about 160 pounds and has dreadlocks, police said.

Several people at the apartment complex said the Jones did not live there, but often came by to visit family and friends.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Gresham police at 503-618-2719.
