Inmate shot by deputies at Vancouver hospital passes away from his injuries
VANCOUVER, Wash. —
A Clark County jail inmate who was shot by deputies while undergoing medical treatment at a Vancouver hospital has passed away.
The 66-year-old inmate was held at Clark County Jail on a parole violation, escape from community custody charge and unlawful possession of a firearm charge, along with a US Marshal's Service Warrant.
He had complained of a medical issue and was transferred to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center Wednesday morning.
Corrections deputies watched him at the hospital overnight.
Thursday morning, officials say the inmate "took action" during a medical treatment, which resulted in the deputies shooting him. He was immediately given medical care and taken into surgery, but later succumbed to his injuries and died.
No one else was injured.
Vancouver Police are investigating the shooting. The deputies involved have been placed on critical incident leave.
