Local priest accused of trying to lure 14-year-old girl

A Scappoose priest has been arrested on charges of luring a 14-year-old girl. The Vancouver teen told police Father Michael T. Patrick followed her in his car and repeatedly tried to get her inside.

Patrick was arrested at the Los Angeles airport on April 8 on his way back from a trip to Australia.

The 14-year-old girl said the incident happened on March 10 as she walked along a street in Vancouver.

The Archdiocese of Portland has suspended Patrick for the time being.

"The Archdiocese will cooperate with law enforcement. We continue to gather information on this matter," the Archdiocese said in a statement.

"Ultimately, we must trust in the justice system," the statement said. "We ask all to join us in prayer for justice."

A spokesman for the Archdiocese said Patrick has been serving in the Portland area for sixteen years and in Scappoose since July, 2012. The spokesman said the Archdiocese had not received prior complaints about Patrick that rose to a serious level.
