Medics and deputies responded to the scene, the Hogan's Corner Airport north of Ocean Shores, after receiving a report of a helicopter crash, said Chief Deputy David Pimentel of the Grays Harbor County Sheriff's Office.
The pilot, a 76-year-old man, and his passenger, a 51-year-old woman, were found at the scene. They did not suffer serious injuries but were taken to the hospital in Aberdeen to be checked out as a precaution.
Both the pilot and passenger are from Forest Grove, Ore. They told authorities they had flown up to do some clam digging on the Washington coast.
As they passed Ocean Shores, the helicopter experienced a mechanical failure and crashed on its side, Pimentel said.
