Man arrested after police say he karate-kicked one of their horses

PORTLAND, Ore. - Police arrested a man they say karate-kicked a police horse named Olin on Wednesday morning.

Joseph Cruz, 29, was charged with interfering with a law-enforcement animal, and also had an arrest warrant.

Mount Patrol Unit officers were working in front of the bus depot in Old Town near NW 6th Ave. and NW Hoyt St. when they stopped to talk to a group of people.

Police said Cruz ran in, "issued a karate-like battle cry" and double-kicked Olin in the right thigh.

Neither Olin nor Cruz was hurt.
