A 22-year-old woman was walking home from QFC near Southeast Milwaukie Avenue and Duke Street just after midnight on June 22, 2016 when a stranger grabbed her from behind and tried to push her inside a car.

She fought and screamed at the stranger, and managed to get away.

The suspect, 27-year-old David Abraham Marcus, was arrested Thursday. He's facing kidnapping and attempted rape charges.

Fran Johnson lives in the area and shops at the same QFC often. She's been more vigilant since the attack, and even carries her own version of pepper spray.

"Hairspray works really well and it's cheaper," Johnson said with a laugh.

She's glad police have made an arrest, and hopes the victim in the case can rest a little easier.

"Well, as short-handed as we are with police, I'm really glad that they also have the satisfaction of bringing somebody to justice. I know that's important to our safety as well," Johnson said.

Police say they got new information this week which led them to Marcus.

Marcus made his first court appearance Friday, he'll be back in court on the 27th.
