Man has new bike stolen in downtown Portland: 'Seems like they've done it before'
PORTLAND, Ore. – A man visiting Portland for the weekend had his new bicycle stolen out of the back of his car.
Patrick Weaver picked up a Bianchi commuter bike Saturday morning from Gladys Bikes on NE Alberta Street. A couple hours later someone broke into his car and stole the bicycle and several other things.
“I've always wanted to get a bike again. After a long time and wanting one I finally decided to drop the cash for one. So I did and I lost it. Kind of sucks,” said Weaver.
He parked in a garage on SW 13th Avenue at 3:30 p.m. and when he returned about three hours later he found the bicycle was gone.
Based on recordings from security cameras, two suspects stole the bike and other stuff at about 5:45 p.m.
“They had footage of them coming out of the elevators - where pedestrians are supposed to exit - with my bike and a black bag I had in my car,” said Weaver. “It only took them like 15 minutes to get in there, break the window, grab it and leave… it seems like they've done it before.”
Anyone with information on the stolen bicycle should call Portland Police and reference case number T17019632.
