Man hit and killed by MAX train in E. Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. - A 51-year-old man died after he was hit by a MAX train in East Portland on Thursday morning, police said.

The collision happened around 10:45 a.m. at East Burnside and 122nd Avenue.

Police and paramedics found David Paul Cain, 51, suffering from traumatic injuries when they arrived. He died at the scene. Police said witnesses told them Cain was stumbling and may have been intoxicated when he stumbled into the side of the MAX train.

MAX lines and traffic on Burnside was blocked in both directions.

Police said the train operator was not at fault in the crash.

The Portland Police Major Crash Team is investigating. An autopsy will be performed as well as toxicology tests.
