Man killed, wife and daughter hospitalized by wrong-way driver, police say

LONGVIEW, Wash. - A man was killed after a Portland woman drove the wrong way in Longview and caused a four-car crash, police said.

Longview's Brett Dawdy, 47, died at the scene and his wife and daughter were both hospitalized. Another passenger in his car was also sent to the hospital and released.

Police arrested 32-year-old Nichole D. McCaslin and charged her with one count of vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault. She was taken to the hospital before going to jail.

Police said they got a call at 6:40 p.m. that a vehicle was driving the wrong way in the westbound lanes of Tennant Way. Less than a minute later, they got another call that there was a serious accident in the 500 block of Tennant Way.

The street was closed for about seven hours during the investigation, opening back up around 1:30 a.m.
