PORTLAND, Ore. - A man riding his bicycle along I-205 on Thursday morning when he rode into traffic and was hit by a vehicle, police said.
A police spokesman said the bicyclist was badly injured but is expected to survive. The crash happened just before 10:30 in the northbound lanes of I-205 at the Killingsworth overpass.
The 40-year-old cyclist was riding in the right shoulder along the interstate when he started to cross over towards the center median, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson. A driver in the northbound lanes then hit the man.
The driver was going the speed limit and stayed to cooperate with police after the crash, Simpson said.
Witnesses said the man on the bike had a dog on a leash with him, but officers could not find the animal and they aren't sure what type of dog it might be.
Officers have not issued any citations or made any arrests.
The cyclist's name isn't being released until his family can be notified of the crash, Simpson said. It's not clear why he was riding along the highway.
