Man pleads guilty to videotaped beating in Milwaukie

OREGON CITY, Ore. - The man accused of severely beating a Milwaukie man in a videotaped incident in June pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault on Wednesday.

Timothy Sullivan was sentenced to 180 days in jail with time served.

Sullivan asked for work release, but was denied it due to the violent nature of the crime and his past record.

The victim, 59-year-old Joseph Garvey, said Sullivan got out of his car and attacked him after Garvey yelled at him to slow down.

The district attorney said Garvey agreed to the sentence recommendation.

"I have mixed reactions," Garvey told KATU on Wednesday.

Sullivan will be on probation for 36 months and will have to have an alcohol and drug evaluation and take anger management courses. He'll have to pay restitution and attorney fees as well.

KATU obtained the video of the incident. Warning, the video is dramatic and shows the beating.
